Take a peaceful paddle down the Moore River, a beautiful, unspoiled stretch of calm water which winds between dunes, woodlands, marshes and cliffs as it makes its way to the Indian Ocean at Guilderton. Watch the ospreys and hawks hunt over the dunes, see the abundance of birdlife and fish in the waters, puzzle how spiders are able to construct their webs over the water!
This is a trip you will remember for the natural surrounds, peace and quiet away from all signs of commercialisation – the way the river has run for thousands of years!
We drive north from Perth, pausing to view the gorgeous Yanchep Lagoon before making our way to Guilderton, looking out for the emus that frequent the paddocks and scrub by the road.
After a cup of coffee, we launch the kayaks for you to explore the river from the upper, navigable reaches to the sandbar separating the river from the ocean.
You can take a rest and moor your kayak on sandy banks by groves of pepper trees and walk along the riverside trails to admire the banksias or wildflowers when in season. Or perhaps moor at the foot of the riverside dunes and climb to the tops to see the stunning views over the river, farmland and expanse of scrub which sweep to the ocean. Or pull your kayak onto the sandbar and stroll along the long, lonely beaches.
After a meal at the cafe, we visit the lookout for the best view of the river, sandbar and ocean as well as the old boat ramp before taking to the sand tracks in the dunes to view the lighthouse.
We make our way back to Perth in the late afternoon, staying close to the coast, watching out for one of Western Australia’s stunning sunsets, to end a perfect day you will remember for years to come.
Kayaking the beautiful Moore River, the dunes, riverside trails, wildlife, beaches, lighthouse, old boat ramp, Yanchep Lagoon – sunset.
